Lately there’s been more and more medium format photography over on our Flickr pool. I’m so excited to see what people are doing with their larger format analog work, and so much of it is just fantastic! Those colors! All that detail! So much contrast! Mmmmm.

Check out a few of these beautiful shots below and have a great day!

Tonight’s walk to the subway through SoHo led me straight to the MoMA design store (gee, how did that happen?) where I spotted the simple missive below on their storefront: “Find something you love.”

I couldn’t agree more.

charity auction- sending warmth to japanFirst of all, I can’t thank those of you who have purchased or promoted our charity print sale enough – my heart is full of love and gratitude this week! To those of you who have asked, we’ll definitely keep the print sale up for at least the next few weeks — we’re hoping to raise as much money for the relief effort as possible!

There are loads of other organizations who are busy selling artistic works for the cause and I can’t wait to share!
The Wall Space galleries on the West Coast put together “Life Support Japan” while 20×200 here in NYC released two beautiful editions from Brooklyn photog Joe Holmes and NYC-born and LA-based artist Emily Shur.

W+K Studio is sending this graphic silkscreen to anyone who donates $25 or more while the Poster Cause Project is hosting a huge sale as well. sfgirlbybay has a noteworthy roundup of beautiful contributions over here as well.

Closer to home, several For the Love of Brooklyn contributors are auctioning off their fantastic images through a grassroots Flickr initiative called Charity Print Auctions – Claire Voelkel auctioned off her print “Sending Warmth to Japan” (above) this week and earned $225!

Other wonderful upcoming auctions include:

  • Barry Yanowitz is auctioning his whimsical “Coney Island Bird Man,” which ends Monday, March 28th at 8pm EST.
  • Jane MacNeil is offering her iconic “Coney Island, New York,” which ends Tuesday, March 29th at 7pm EST.
  • Georg Seidlmeir is listing his moody “Unterwegs” print, which ends Wednesday, March 30th at 2pm EST.
  • If you’re an artist looking to participate in this series, check out the Flickr group for more information.

And if you’re looking for beautiful art you can purchase for a great cause, click here to browse the auctions or follow real-time updates on Twitter!

japan relief sale: from NYC with LOVE!

After learning of the tragedies surrounding the earthquake and subsequent tsunami that Japan suffered earlier this month, I couldn’t sit still. I had to do something to rally our support and show love from NYC. When I discovered this beautiful photograph contributed to our Flickr pool, I reached out to Brazil-born artist and architect Ciro Miguel. He generously offered to donate his work, and now I’m offering it as a token of our thanks to all those who donate.

All orders will receive an 8″x12″ archival photograph of lower Manhattan shot from the rooftop of the Standard Hotel superimposed on Japan’s iconic Mount Fuji, representing a symbolic image of strength, support, and love. All net proceeds will be donated to the Red Cross.
