It seems hardly possible that October hasn’t yet ended and we’ve already seen snow! I’m still harvesting my late summer veggies and trying to plan my spring garden. But indeed, many along the East Coast did get socked with snow yesterday. While I hibernated at home, lots of intrepid photographers grabbed their cameras and headed out to catch the first storm of the season. Check out some of their great shots below and contribute your own over at our Flickr group. Stay warm!

More than once this weekend I thought about blogging while we were holed up and preparing for Hurricane Irene to come tearing through Brooklyn. Instead, it proved to be an opportune time to catch up on sleep, paint my dining room, and lazily watch some over-the-top news coverage of the storm. (“IT’S THE SIZE OF EUROPE!”) While the damage in New York City definitely doesn’t hold a candle to what’s going on in parts of New Jersey and Vermont, I wanted to share some of these Brooklyn scenes of the storm and its aftermath.

Did you venture out into the storm? Have shots you’d like to share? Send ‘em our way – we’d love to see them.

It’s official: this has been the snowiest January on record in New York City. After 36 inches of snow this month, is it ever going to stop?! Well, good news for you snow bunnies: there’s more on the way this weekend. In the meantime, check out these lovely photos of the latest storm from our Flickr group and bundle up!

snow big deal: just a dusting

January 21st, 2011 | Posted by Jill in crown heights | weather - (1 Comments)

After the recent succession of blizzards this past month, each time the weather forecast includes snow I worry. Then, on mornings like this when I wake up to sunshine streaming into the bedroom and reflecting off the light dusting of snow, I remember how beautiful the winter is.

Time for a steaming hot cup of cocoa and a cozy blanket. Happy Friday, Brooklyn!
