last weekend for the indoor flea!

Another sure sign of spring is the Brooklyn Flea‘s last indoor market of the season, which is happening this weekend at One Hanson Place! It’s hard to believe it’s already time for all the vendors to pack up and head to Fort Greene, but it sure is exciting since they’re changing up a few things this summer! Saturdays will be at the regular spot behind Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School, while the Flea will head to a new location in Williamsburg on Sundays to set up shop on North 6th Street between Kent Avenue and the river!

Though I’ll definitely miss wandering through the Flea and admiring the beautiful architecture of the former Williamsburgh Savings Bank, I can’t wait to see what treats they have in store for the new season and which new food vendors they’ve selected this year. Oh — and finally do some antique-y shopping for the new house!

Check out some of my favorite vignettes below on a recent trip to the Flea (how awesome is that lamp?!) and have an awesome weekend — see you there!

a cozy supper at brooklyn public

On a recent chilly autumn evening, I found myself out and about with friends in Fort Greene in search of a cozy to grab a bite. In the mood for a good pint of beer to warm us up, we ended up at Brooklyn Public House, a cozy Irish-style gastropub located in a beautifully-renovated brownstone on DeKalb between Clermont and Vanderbilt. Drawn to their comfort-food menu, my friends enjoyed their fish & chips and my hearty turkey chili was just what the doctor ordered to stave off the cold. A snappy Coney Island Albino Python topped it off nicely.

Originally built in the mid-1800′s, the Public House hosted a candy store during Prohibition, and its current owners now display a number of historical artifacts to admire while you chow down: original tin ceilings, vintage newspapers and posters, beautiful vintage mirrors, and more. So charming to this vintage-loving Brooklyn fan!

NYC Marathon 2010

Sunday was an absolutely beautiful autumn day. I went out in the morning to watch the marathon at the corner of Lafayette Ave and Washington Ave. I could hear live music, cheering, and cowbells from two blocks away. The excitement was contagious as I approached Lafayette.

The police motorcycles clearing the way, the runners shuffling through the crowded streets, the spectators cheering. I never knew watching people run could be so much fun, nobody ever told me the NYC Marathon is actually a party.

It was inspirational to watch so many people–almost 40,000–push themselves physically and mentally to run all 26.219 miles through the 5 boroughs. There were so many different types of people, with different levels of intensity. From professional runners who were pushing like they were running for gold in the Olympics, to the more casual athletes who looked as if they were a couple days late for the Halloween parade, the crowd cheered just as hard for each.

recovering from the brooklyn flea

After a beautiful afternoon at the Brooklyn Flea in Fort Greene, there’s nothing more relaxing than a quiet evening in with a glass of wine and some soft, furry company. Highlights of the day included a luscious ice cream sandwich from The Good Batch, smoky salty goodness from Porchetta, and a Vendy-Cup-winning huarache from the Red Hook allstars.

My only advice to surviving an afternoon at the Flea: go HUNGRY and go with friends who like to SHARE.

Now it’s time for a catnap!
