It’s official: this has been the snowiest January on record in New York City. After 36 inches of snow this month, is it ever going to stop?! Well, good news for you snow bunnies: there’s more on the way this weekend. In the meantime, check out these lovely photos of the latest storm from our Flickr group and bundle up!

Even though I was late to the game, I recently read about the discovery of Vivian Maier’s street work in Chicago. If you haven’t yet heard her story, please do take a few minutes to read the Times piece and watch the Kickstarter promo for the documentary that John Maloof and Anthony Rydzon are creating about her life. Then go browse the blog as Maloof uncovers and archives her spellbinding images.

As I return to her work over and over, I’m constantly reminded of the magic of street photography, and my passion to capture NYC street life is renewed. Today’s favorite shots are an homage to the way good street photography makes me *feel* — and I hope Vivian’s story and these beautiful images below will share even a tiny sense of that renewed inspiration with you as well. Have a great week!

As I mentally prepare for NYC to get socked by another snow storm tonight and hope that things don’t turn out quite as bad as the last round, I ran across these pictures in our Flickr pool. Call me a glutton for punishment, call me a masochist, call me what you will — these summery photos are bound to keep you warm tomorrow, if only for a little while… at least as long as it takes to get out there and tromp around in the snow with your cameras!
