flickr faves: six by six forever

My love for medium format film photography is no secret. And much to my delight, the volume of amazing work keeps increasing in our lovely Flickr pool, so the word must be spreading (or my proselytizing is working: yay!).

Check out some of my recent favorites below. And while we’re at it, can anyone recommend a good 645 medium format camera? I’m jonesing for a new format these days, and I’m pretty well decided on 645, but that’s as far as I’ve gotten. Hasselblad? Contax? Pentax? Good ol’ Mamiya? I am paralyzed by all these vintage gear choices! I’d love your recommendations. Enjoy!

More than once this weekend I thought about blogging while we were holed up and preparing for Hurricane Irene to come tearing through Brooklyn. Instead, it proved to be an opportune time to catch up on sleep, paint my dining room, and lazily watch some over-the-top news coverage of the storm. (“IT’S THE SIZE OF EUROPE!”) While the damage in New York City definitely doesn’t hold a candle to what’s going on in parts of New Jersey and Vermont, I wanted to share some of these Brooklyn scenes of the storm and its aftermath.

Did you venture out into the storm? Have shots you’d like to share? Send ‘em our way – we’d love to see them.

world photography day

August 23rd, 2011 | Posted by Jill in flickr faves - (1 Comments)

Wow, I can hardly believe it’s been a whole month since I last posted. You would think I’d want to get my act together for World Photography Day and celebrate the invention of the Daguerreotype or something. Shame.

Turns out traveling every week for work is pretty exhausting, or else I’m just a sissy. While my schedule hasn’t been great for blogging, it’s been way fun for Instagram’ing and getting questioned at airport security every time I drag my beast of a camera anywhere. Guess I’ll have to postpone for the next photography holiday. Ahem.

It feels great to be back in New York. I’m feeling strangely creative and inspired this week, so I wanted to share a few inspiring photos and wish everyone a good week. I hope to share lots more this week!

After whining about my creative rut last night, I decided I needed to feel a little less sorry for myself and go forth and be inspired. So I fired up the good ol’ Flickr pool and started digging. It’s been too long.

Boy was it a kick in the pants. Seeing all the good work folks are doing around Brooklyn was unbelievably inspirational. From images of late night taco trucks, to Mermaid Parade revelers, to portraits of those living fleeting, everyday moments, I was really overwhelmed by many of the works I’m seeing these days.

Check out a few of my recent favorites below and be sure to pause a beat and let the mood of each wash over you!
