If you’re an avid reader of 66 Square Feet, as am I, you know about Marie’s grassroots campaign to step up and volunteer to help rid Prospect Park of the grit and grime of a certain section of the woods to which city and parks department officials have long turned a blind eye. The last litter mob met up on May 10th, and collected bags and bags of trash.

The next Litter Mob is on Tuesday morning, May 24th at 9am sharp. If you’d like to participate, RSVP to Marie ASAP. The group will meet at the corner of East Drive and Center Drive in the Midwood, just south of the zoo [map below]. Trash-grabbers, gloves, and bags will be provided — as well as a sense of great satisfaction in helping preserve one of Brooklyn’s greatest treasures.

A couple of weekends ago, a group of us met up on the rooftop of Rocky Sullivan’s for some sunshine and good company before heading out into the streets of Red Hook to take beautiful photographs. I’m still catching up with everyone’s photostreams and all the great contributions to the Flickr group, but I wanted to first share some of the lovely portraits that were taken on the walk.

To everyone that joined us for the first time — it was so great to meet you! Thanks for coming!

(P.S. When can sunshine like this return?! These grey, rainy days seem so cold by comparison!)

blogfest 2011: photobloggers tribute

May 13th, 2011 | Posted by Jill in events | video - (1 Comments)

Last night, loads of bloggers descended on the Bell House in Gowanus for Brooklyn Blogfest 2011. As he did last year, Adrian Kinloch once again put together a fantastic Photobloggers Tribute, which featured the work of more than a dozen photographers in the borough, and three of the artists from For the Love of Brooklyn – Barry Yanowitz, Matt Nedbalsky, and myself.

On a personal note, watching this video got me choked up and emotional. I’m so very proud of all the wonderful work that Brooklyn’s photographers do, and it makes me so thankful to be a part of the community that’s sprouted up around this site. Seriously – so much talent around these parts and I take such joy in sharing it with this corner of the web.

Check out a full list of all the video’s featured photographers here and be sure to watch the full video below with your sound on or in full screen HD over on YouTube!

april meet-up: red hook ramble!

April 27th, 2011 | Posted by Jill in meet-up - (4 Comments)

This weekend’s weather looks like it’s going to be perfect — perfect for a photowalk! I’m excited to announce that our next meet-up will be this Saturday, April 30th in Red Hook. We’ll start off at Rocky Sullivan’s (hopefully on the roof deck if it’s open!) for a bit of relaxation before gathering up the group and heading out to explore the neighborhood. If I were a betting woman, I’d probably wager there are some cupcakes and key lime pies on the agenda as well!

If you’ve never joined us for a meet-up before, we’d love to have you — be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes! If you’d like to receive news about future meet-ups and events, be sure to become a fan on Facebook!

RSVP: Via Facebook
Date: Saturday, April 30th
Time: 3:30pm
