Recent buzz in the NYC blogosphere was all over the NY Mag article which ranked Park Slope, Brooklyn as New York’s ‘most livable neighborhood’ against a number of criteria. Statistician and data mastermind Nate Silver of FiveThirtyEight was brought in to do the evaluation, and the gold star was awarded to the Slope thanks to its good schools, low crime, active nightlife and restaurant scene, and a wide array of other marks.
As a South Slope resident for the last 5+ years, I feel a mix of pride and skepticism; any effort at ranking relies on assumptions and generalizations. But there’s one thing I can agree with Nate on: the neighborhood truly is superlative, at least for photos. On a recent walk home, I brought my 35mm along to check out the sunset.
